“Memories” is a collection of memoirs such as life stories, reminiscences, tributes, and expressions of gratitude, being compiled and edited in a hard-copy art designed, distinctive coffee table book. Brainchild of Carmencita “Menchee" Quesada Fulgado, PhD, editor and publisher of Memoirs of UP Alumni Abroad and Commissioner for the UP Centennial Celebration in 2008. This sequel of the successful project is all-inclusive; whether or not UP graduates, in the US, the Philippines, or anywhere in the world, you are invited to contribute in support of a scholarship to be created for the 7 campuses of UP. While the Memoirs book donated a total of $50,000, Memories… a Legacy Gift aims to move the fundraising to a higher level, with a goal of $70,000 to create a $10,000 Memories Legacy Gift Endowment Scholarship in each of the 7 campuses. The good news is that since last year's press release, we now have reserved funds for the publication of the book and funds to create the scholarship in two campuses.

The Memories Legacy Gift Endowment Fund will be deeded to the University of the Philippines Foundation and only the interests earned will be used to give awards, making your donation, a one-time giving to last forever. This is a unique opportunity, an invitation to be magnanimous, for all nationalities to make a nominal yet global contribution for the pursuit of education. There will also be a list of contributors who prefer not to write and whose contribution will be at will.

Filipinos’ value for Education is undeniable. Thus we feel proud and have highest regard over the premier institution of higher learning in the country, the University of the Philippines. In 2008 the UP New Charter was signed by then Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, and the 19^th and first woman UP President Emerlinda R. Roman, with the UP community and the sponsors of the bill in attendance. The aim of the New Charter is to help UP become a better and stronger national university for the people. The reforms embodied in this New Charter will allow UP to keep abreast with the times. We now have a greater reason to help UP through a donation that will continue giving, an endowment scholarship fund, which uses the interest only to award needy, and deserving students. Your gift will continue giving now and in generations to come. Without a doubt a dream of Filipino families is that at least one member could make it to UP, this scholarship is one great help towards that dream.

Those who missed being in the Centennial Memoirs Book, this is now the chance to have you and your family be in a magnanimous coffee table book, your story to become and heirloom. A page can be shared by the family, a group of friends, an organization, the $150 donation will then be shared and becomes nominal. This is a gift giving at another level…it's not self-serving, it is not giving to any relation, not to someone you know but purely in the spirit of thanksgiving and gratitude, and with St Francis' “It's in giving that we receive".

The exciting news is that funds for the publication of the coffee table book, plus over $30,000 for scholarship has been raised. The goal of Memories Project is to have an average of $10,000 in each of the seven units of the University.
