UPAA-NY made Memories Book 3 pre-publication donation at the Homecoming June 2016 of $10,000 to UP Foundation which holds the UP Alumni* Quesada-Fulgado* Friends Scholarship Fund which now has a scholarship slot in each of the 8 Constituent Units of the UP System.  32 Students have received from this fund since 2007.  The aim of Book 3 is to augment the number of slots in UP Manila, UP Diliman, UP Los Banos, UP Open University, UP Visayas, UP Mindanao, UP Baguio, & UP Cebu.  ALL are welcome to submit their memoir, with a tax-deductible donation towards this scholarship fund which uses only the interest to make awards.  Your one time donation will continue giving to needy scholars NOW and in generations to come.  You will have your life story, gratitude expressed, honoring your parents, your heritage, your legacy, and you will have a copy of the coffee table book which becomes a family heirloom.  This is the 3rd and final of the UP Centennial Series PLEDGE now and start your memoir.

UPDATE JUNE-JULY- AUG 2016

UPAAA/ UPAA/ Chicago HOF:  At the 2015 UPAAA Grand Reunion in San Diego, UPAA-NY was awarded for Outstanding Service as a chapter. On June 25, 2016 UPAA-NY received the same category at the Diliman Homecoming.  Just prior to leaving for the Philippines to accept the latter award, Dr. Fulgado received an email that she was unanimously selected by the Chicago Filipino Asian American Hall of Fame 2016 to receive Excellence in Education National Award on October 29, 2016, followed with a formal letter  (Attachment I) 

Pre-publication Donation:  On June 17, 2016 Book 3 Memories made a pre-publication donation of $10,000.  Dr. Fulgado and Pres. Pascual signed the Deed of Donation to UP Foundation Inc. Dr. Fulgado presented a Scroll with the list of contributors, the US and the Philippines as of May 31, 2016 (Attachment II & III)  Managing directors, members of the Editorial board, kindly forward these attachments to whom it is of concern…contributing faculty , staff, and members of your families whose email addresses Memories project do not necessarily have.

Publication of Book 3: Dr. Fulgado requested to include Memories Project in the President’s Advisory Council (PAC) meeting of July 19, 2016 for an assessment on the Constituent Unit (CU)’s participation as Team One UP with a re-count of pages pledged.  Prior to the meeting, the Chancellors were individually emailed to advice each CU to anticipate the agenda item.  Previously, UPM’s 50-60 pp, UPLB 20-25 pp, UPCebu 10-20 pp anticipated not to change.  The remaining 5 CUs were recommended to have at least 10 pages.  With this projection, 150 pp from the Philippines + 150 pp in the US, Book 3 publication is forthcoming EXCEPT no manuscript has yet been received from the Philippines.  On the Pesos donation, the good news is that P145,000 has already been deposited directly to UP Foundation for credit to Memories Book 3 account.  Start sending NOW your person/family legacy stories if you haven’t.

Format & Outline: For the Constituent Units (CUs) your narrative in New Times Roman Font 11 (Attachment IV) will follow this sequence: (1) About the CU (reported to have already been updated by the Office of the President)  (2) Memoirs of CUs donors, and  (3)one-page Memoir of CU scholars.  The designee of the Chancellor to the Editorial Board will please review the narratives to be in compliance with the format and sequence and send your set together.  Please do not have donors and scholars send them directly to Dr. Fulgado.  All narratives prepared in Word.doc please.  Pictures will be sent separately which will be inserted to the manuscript by the editor after editing, and will be returned for final approval by the CU. To everyone, group entry is permissible,  the second page of a two page memoir could be like Attachment V. Note: Scholar memoir does not require a donation, our gift to them.  The Office of Scholarships is initiating, they have the list 24 grads and 8 presently in attendance.  Let us see to it that each CU has 2 scholars, which means 2 pages .  CUs please help follow up your scholar, get your list.  Managing Directors, members of the Editorial Board please follow up your group.

CUs Chancellors & Designees:  There has been changes in CU administration since Book 3 started-in the-making, all 8 but one has remained.  Please advice NOW about participation in this Team ONE UP in this scholarship-driven project.  We could have been remise in orientating the “new comers” kindly ask…and thou shalt receive.  It will be ironical, with the book entitled UP Alumni and Friends United and under Team ONE UP, with Pres. Pascual himself as honorary chair, if not all the CUs are participating when the Scholarship fund, for the CU students is currently making awards and the purpose is to increase slots in each CUs.

YES, We Can:  Shall we…if we are to publish this year..  designate a deadline of  Sept 15? …Oct 15?  Which is your choice? Depending on how “clean” the manuscripts are, we can still make it with October 15 deadline but will be rough.  Will you accept the challenge?  This will happen if we all “take ownership” of this project …United We Stand…we will reach our Goal and beat the record of the previous two books and raise $70,000!

GIVING FROM THE HEART...ONE DOLLAR A DAY

 GIVING Takes just $1 (PhP 13) PER DAY  

WHAT: EDUCATION is key to progress and development of a nation.  For which reason we invest in the education of our children and are willing to contribute towards scholarships. Now, there is scholarship, one slot each, in the autonomous Units of the University of the Philippines, from Baguio to Mindanao. Since it is generally a dream of every Filipino family that at least one member will graduate from UP, this now is a possibility. With Pres Pascual as Honorary Chair and the Chancellors’ designees making up Team One UP, the project moves to augment the fund now with UP Foundation Inc, in so doing, to increase scholarship slots in all of the UP System.

HOW: Two coffee table books, Memoirs of UP Alumni Abroad (2008) and Memories…a Legacy Gift (2012) boosted this fund which now has reached $158,000 in the UPFI, and has helped 24 students. Being an endowment fund, only the interest earned by the fund is used as awards. The coffee table books are replete with memoirs of alumni and friends, who with their tax-deductible contribution get their story published, free of editorial and cost of publishing, a one-time giving that lasts forever. Memories of UP Alumni United & Friends is scheduled for late 2015 publication.

WHY:  Everyone has a story to tell, gratitude to express. Our past is our legacy, our treasure to honor and share with our children, grandchildren and beyond.  The book becomes  heirloom of the family.  Moreover, it is not just self-serving, but a magnanimous gift towards helping others get a college education.  Your gift will continue giving beyond our lifetime to iskolars ng bayan.
