Fulgado Signs DOD with Third UP President

Dr Carmencita Quesada Fulgado Signs DOD with Third UP President
New York. December 5, 2012 was a momentous event not just because of Pag-ilaw, the official beginning of the Christmas celebrations at the University of the Philippines. It was also the signing of the Deed of donation which now combines previous scholarship funds signed by Dr. Carmencita C. Quesada Fulgado since 2000 as National President of the UP Alumni in America. Now, President of the UPAA-NY and UPAAA Historian, Dr. Fulgado launched her second coffee table book of personal and  family  stories each page donated by fellow alumni friends, including non-Filipinos.  She presented her a copy of Memories  while the UP President gave her the UP Pin. With her was her husband of 44 years, Leonardo T. Fulgado MD UST’65.
In 2008 for the UP Centennial Celebration, Dr. Fulgado, appointed Commissioner Abroad, developed this concept of soliciting stories, and for a tax-deductible donation the stories were edited and published into an elegant hard-cover art designed 3.5 lb coffee table book to be treasured as a legacy of donors.  The first was Memoirs of UP Alumni Abroad.  It’s sequel  is a magnanimous one Memories…a Legacy Gift of Filipinos and Friends.
Both publications brought $50,000 and signed with UP Foundation, Inc.  The endowment fund uses only interest accrued by the fund to award eligible needy students, now in the 7 independent units of the University, from Baguio to Mindanao. Dr. Fulgado adds that  “no longer do students need to be in UP Diliman or Manila, they could be in any of the other five.”
Wishing all the Joy of Christmas
UP Foundation records show that Dr. Fulgado is the only UP graduate who has signed Deed of Donation with three consecutive UP Presidents: with Pres Nemenzo in 2000, Pres Roman in 2006 and now with Pres Pascual. Her “shepherding the flock from abroad” has already helped 19 students.  With the additional $50,000 brought by Memories Project, the grand total , with accrued interest, after awards made to the students, still has reached  $153,000.  Now named UP Alumni, Quesada-Fulgado and Friends Scholarship Fund, it aims to have at least one slot for each of the 7 units, eventually to include the constituent unit, UP Cebu  Thereafter, Dr. Fulgado officially visited UP Open U, UP Los Banos, UP Diliman and UP Manila in PGH,  met with the Chancellors and their teams in Alumni Relations/Affairs, presenting a copy of Memories for each campus, sharing with them how her Give Back Mission as she calls it,  can be moved to another level.  In keeping with President Pascual’s goal of ONE U.P. and energized by the warm reception she received from President Pascual and the Chancellors, she is encouraged  to do a Book Three with a goal of 2015  publication. Chancellors the units she was unable to visit due to time constraints will be updated and together she plans to invite all to build TEAM ONE U.P.  with the Chancellors and/or their designees, thereby creating  a team of Managing Editors in the Philippines and abroad who would search for donors for their stories, that of their family and friends, express their gratitude, in praise and thanksgiving, and be published in a coffee table book and at the same time helping needy scholars in completing their university degree.  Along with this altruism, still tax-deductible for donors and sponsors.

.  The University of the Philippines Alumni Association NY Chapter announces its successful production of yet another collection of life stories turned into a coffee table book as a fundraiser for scholarship in the Philippines.  For the UP Centennial Celebration, Dr. Carmencita C. Quesada Fulgado was appointed Commissioner Abroad.  She edited and published the Memoirs of UP Alumni Abroad. This brought $50,000 to the University Scholarship Fund. Now, with her as current president, UPAA-NY sponsored its sequel, Memories…A Legacy Gift.  This time, contributors are Filipinos, and non-Filipinos,  UP and non-UP alumni…for “everyone has a story to tell, an experience to share, and gratitude to express”  Dr. Fulgado explains.
